Week Six SEC Predictions

After this weekend’s games conclude, the college football season will be halfway over, and the SEC still has yet to take over the scene.

Six SEC schools are currently ranked in the top 25, as opposed to eight this time last season, but despite those rankings, the SEC’s dominance seems to be gone.

This is the first week six since 2003 that an SEC team has not been raked in the top five.

This week, ranked teams LSU, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia will get a chance to work towards being ranked in the top five, but for now the SEC is on the outside looking in.

Here are The Power T Report’s week six picks:

South Carolina (2-3) at 7 LSU (4-0)

(3:30, ESPN)

This game didn’t have much interest surrounding it originally, but due to the flooding in South Carolina, the eyes of the college football world have been on the situation surrounding this matchup the last couple of days.

This game was originally scheduled to take place in Columbia, South Carolina, but has been moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Everything surrounding the game will be treated as if it is a home game for South Carolina, except for the fact that it is being played at LSU.

As for the game itself, it doesn’t matter where it is played, LSU would come out on top.

The Tigers are simply the better team, and the unexpected travel will have an effect on a young Gamecocks team.

LSU 41, South Carolina 17

Arkansas (2-3) at 8 Alabama (4-1)

(7, ESPN)

Arkansas’s season had not gone as planned up until last week, but a comeback win over Tennessee has put the Razorbacks in a good position in the SEC West.

A win over Alabama this week for Arkansas would actually make the Hogs a front runner in the SEC West, a complete turn around from where this team was just a week ago.

Though a win over the Tide would be huge, Arkansas just isn’t quite there as a team.

The Hogs will get some more SEC wins and end up finishing in the middle of the pack in a loaded SEC West, but they won’t be getting one of those wins this week.

Alabama running back Derrick Henry will have a big day in a “closer than the score indicates” win.

Alabama 31, Arkansas 14

11 Florida (5-0) at Missouri (4-1)

(7:30, SEC Network)

Florida’s surprising blowout win over Ole Miss last week put them in the driver’s seat in the SEC East, while Missouri has been extremely underwhelming this season.

Missouri will be starting true freshman quarterback Drew Lock in place of suspended Maty Mauk for the second straight week, which may not be a bad thing for the Tigers.

Lock played well in last week’s 24-10 win over South Carolina, completing 21 of 28 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

While Missouri looks like it may have found a quarterback for the future, Florida looks as if it has a future star in Will Grier.

Grier passed for 271 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions in the upset of Ole Miss, but Missouri’s defense will pose a new challenge.

It won’t be as easy as last week, but Florida will get it done against Missouri in Columbia.

Florida 24, Missouri 21

19 Georgia (4-1) at Tennessee (2-3)

(3:30, CBS)

The mood around the Tennessee football program this week hasn’t been what many thought it would be during Georgia week.

After losing their third 14 plus point lead this season last week against Arkansas, the Vols will look to get back on track against a Georgia team that is also coming off of a disappointing loss, theirs to Alabama.

Though Georgia is in a little bit of a desperation mode, Tennessee definitely needs this game more after their first five games left them at 2-3, even though the Vols were just a few plays away from starting 5-0.

Just as Tennessee has been close in several games this season, they have been close against Georgia for the past three seasons, losing by seven points in 2012, and three points each of the last two seasons.

Tennessee has the talent to stick with and even beat the Bulldogs, but it will again all come down to if the Vols can close out the game.

The Vols will get another fast start, but fail to finish strong for the third season in a row against Georgia.

Georgia 34, Tennessee 27

Other picks:

Ole Miss 52, New Mexico State 3

(12, SEC Network)

Mississippi State 45, Troy 10

(4, SEC Network)
