Four-star defensive end Chidi Okonya committed to Tennessee this afternoon, giving the Vols ten current commitments for the 2016 class.
Okonya chose the Vols over Clemson, Duke, Ole Miss, and Stanford.
The Riverdale, Georgia native is a 6-foot-7, 230 pound strong-side defensive end and will be another solid addition to Tennessee’s already stacked defensive front.
Okonya is ranked as the number 23 player in Georgia and number 266 overall for 2016 (247 Sports).
"Tennessee has an excellent business school, tremendous academic resources, world-class athletic facilities and a very passionate fan base," Okonya said in a statement. "Most importantly, I have developed a really sound relationship with the coaching staff. Tennessee is the school where I felt most comfortable calling my next home."
While recognizing the history of Tennessee’s football program, Okonya also cited the UT College of Business as a reason for choosing the Vols.
Academics were a priority for Okonya, which was a major reason why Duke and Stanford were in his top five.
“The relationships with the coaches that I’ve been able to build [stood out],” Okonya told VolQuest this week. “I also got a good look at the college of business and got a good look at how they run things and what opportunities I would have.”
Okonya is currently Tennessee’s only defensive line commitment for the 2016 class.
